is a guide for developing teaching programs in Community Language Schools.
The Model Program
- has been developed specifically for teachers of Community Languages Schools.
- is a guideline for teaching Community Languages to young beginning learners.
- is aimed at providing a common framework for all Community Language Schools.
- provides a cohesive basis upon which teachers are able to prepare their lessons for each level of study .
- enables teachers to add and modify their lessons according to their students’ and their teaching style.
- is based on the Australian NSW Board of Studies K-10 Generic Language Syllabus.
- includes both a language and cultural overview.
- suggests a variety of activities, games and exercises derived from teaching resources which might be already available and in use in the classroom or are easily accessible or produced.
- suggests teaching strategies and references which are suitable for the mixed age and mixed ability class, typical of Community Languages Schools.

The Association of Illawarra Community Languages Schools Inc. (AICLS) has developed the
Model Program Resource Book in conjunction with the Model Program.
AICLS is happy to be able to share a free copy of this Resource Book with AICLS member Community Language Schools and hope it will assist you with your language teaching program and resource development.
This Resource Book attempts to be generic that student resource pages can be easily modified and be translated into any Community Language (CL). These student pages are to be photocopied and handed out to students as worksheets. There are also teacher pages, which give teachers instructions about the various tasks and activities together with the student worksheets. But also there are many teacher pages with teaching ideas for reading, writing, listening and speaking tasks and activities.
Individual pages can be downloaded online. Please email email@example.com for the link with your Community Language School’s name. If you would like to become a member, please fill out the membership form.
The student pages have some student instructions and other task or activity related writings in English but written in red. This is to make it easier and show the teacher which text needs to be translated into the Community Language (CL)
